Teacher Subject Specialism Training

Teacher Subject Specialism Training (TSST), provided by Poole TSST in partnership with Sigma Teaching School and Bath Spa University, provides a solution to the ongoing issues in teacher recruitment and retention for Maths and Modern Foreign Languages, by training non-specialist teachers in subject-specific pedagogy and subject knowledge.

We are committed to producing an excellent and sustainable method of training; delivering flexible and bespoke programmes to suit the needs of our participants.

The courses are aimed at teachers with QTS in any of the following categories:

  • Teachers whose initial training was not at secondary level
  • Teachers who are returning to teaching after a career break
  • Existing specialist subject teachers who would like to enhance their knowledge of the subject in order to be able to teach at a higher key stage

For teachers meeting the criteria, these courses are FREE through funding provided by the National College for Teaching and Leadership (NCTL).
Our unique programmes support the training of Key Stages 3 and 4 whilst incorporating stretching student learning in Key Stage 2. Participants experience a blended method of training to include face-to-face workshops, online subject knowledge enhancement, fully interactive virtual classroom seminars and supportive mentoring programmes to provide feedback in integrated lessons.
